A northwestern suburb of Chicago in Illinois, Hoffman Estates is a  village located in Cook County and Kane counties.  Initially the Schaumburg Township remained a rural farming community until the year 1954 when a local farmer sold his 160-acre farm to Sam and Jack Hoffman, owners of the Father and Son Construction Company.  By 1959, residents voted to incorporate as the Village of Hoffman Estates with a population of around 8,000, in an area that was about three square miles.  The Village's estimated population is at over 50,000, with a total incorporated land area of about 19 square miles.                                                                                                          

Hoffman Estates is the headquarters for the Sears Holdings Corporation, AT&T and for Mori Seiki. There were numerous small office buildings by the 1980s along with corporations.  Ameritech’s built a 1.2 million square foot regional headquarters that held its opening in 1991 and the Prairie Stone Business Park was planned with 800 acres slated for research, office, high-tech as well as industrial uses, the ideal environment for invoice factoring. 

The Heartland International Tattoo, one of the largest music and dance festivals of its kind was hosted by Hoffman Estates in 2009. The Economic Development Division assists with business attraction and retentions well as tourism.
